Bridgeport resident Peter Tsimbidaros, also age 50, died a day after the crash that took place around 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan., 1, near the corner of Ellsworth Street and Fairfield Avenue.
The two-vehicle crash involved a 2008 Chrysler van, driven by Keith Commerford, of Bridgeport, and a 2006 Honda CRV, driven by Tsimbidaros, a longtime attorney in the city, Bridgeport Police said.
As a result of an investigation conducted by the Bridgeport Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team, Commerford was taken into custody Friday evening, Jan. 3 on an arrest warrant charging him with the following:
- second-degree manslaughter
- misconduct with a motor vehicle,
- evading responsibility serious physical injury,
- illegal operation of a motor vehicle - under the influence of alcohol/drugs,
- illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.
With bond set at $500,000, Commerford is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 6.
Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Tsimbidaros worked as a criminal attorney in his own private practice for 25 years. He graduated from Fairfield University and UConn School of Law.
He is survived by parents Apostolos and Dimitra Lekka Tsimbidaros, brother John Tsimbidaros, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Rite of Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport with Fr. Georgios Livaditis Presbyter officiating followed by interment at Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
Calling hours will take place on Monday morning from 11 a.m. until time of service in the church at the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. in Bridgeport.
The family request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Peter.
